Sharon Lucas & The Reading Divas

The Reading Divas Book Club was founded in 1998 by Sharon Lucas. It was a simple beginning,  she chose a book, picked a date, invited a few friends to her home, asked those friends to bring a friend, and the rest is history.  Currently the club has 16 members.

The Divas do not confine their reads to any particular genre - though they primarily read works by  African American authors and are partial to mystery and suspense. The club meets monthly, the member/hostess for the month chooses the book and moderates the meeting.

The Black Authors & Readers Rock Weekend is the result of several annual literary brunches hosted by the group - the first of which was held to celebrate the group's 10th Anniversary. The Divas consider this their "community project" because helps to bridge the gap left by the closing of so many book stores by bringing together both established and emerging authors with book clubs and other avid readers from across the country.

The Weekend is an intimate event with plenty of time to meet and mingle.  Several panels and workshops are part of the program.
